Biography

As a small child Carrie recalls watching her mother paint and at the age of ten declaring that she wanted to be an artist when she grew up. Despite many attempts, she found she had not inherited the talent for drawing and painting. It was not until her early thirties that she discovered clay and that the tactile qualities of this medium allowed her to express her artistic spirit.

Carrie’s ceramics education has been self directed, taking classes at community colleges and attending workshops; including many two week workshops at Anderson Ranch Art Center. Over time she was able to combine the little “gems” of information from each instructor to create a unique style that was her own.

Carrie strives to create work that captures a sense of gracefulness and fluidity, intending to provoke a sense of movement to the viewers, while at the same time alluding to images that are just under the surface of consciousness.
